Job Introduction

We have an excellent opportunity to join our IT department as a Junior Analyst Programmer, where you will play an integral role in supporting various business areas, including stores, distribution, and head office functions.

As part of our IT Development team, you will be working with IBM Power Systems (iSeries), utilizing technologies like RPG, SQL, DB2/400, and RDi, while also gaining exposure to socket programming, XML, JSON, and communication protocols. You will assist in bug fixing, basic troubleshooting, and developing well-structured, maintainable program code. Additionally, you’ll test and write interfaces for existing processes, support ERP development, and help integrate systems such as voice picking, POS, and automation tools.

This is a varied role, offering the chance to collaborate across different business units and gain hands-on experience in real-world projects. You’ll learn the full software development lifecycle and work closely with Senior Analyst Programmers, adhering to established standards and participating in change management processes. There will also be opportunities to spend time on the Support desk and shadow different business functions to deepen your understanding of operational requirements and challenges.

  • Testing & Integration: You’ll test data, programs, and processes, and write interfaces for existing systems, helping with ERP development and system integration.
  • User Interaction: You will meet with users to gather requirements and ensure that development aligns with their needs, contributing to the overall success of business operations.
  • Adherence to Standards: You will learn and apply documented programming standards, gaining experience in change management environments using prescribed tools.
  • Documentation: When encountering issues with limited documentation, you’ll proactively create and maintain accurate records of solutions and processes.
  • Communication Protocols: You’ll learn about and work with IP, sockets, and other communication protocols to ensure smooth system operations.
