Job Introduction

Are you ready to start a hands-on career maintaining and repairing one of the UK's most modern commercial fleets? Based at our Liverpool Regional Distribution Centre, this exciting opportunity offers the chance to join our high-performing Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) as a VMU Apprentice Technician.

With full company-funded training and guidance from experienced professionals, you’ll gain the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to become a fully qualified VMU Technician. You’ll work on a wide variety of fleet vehicles, supporting inspections, diagnostics, servicing, repairs, and fabrication work—all while learning in a safety-first, team-oriented environment.

Our past apprentices have successfully progressed into permanent technician roles, and you’ll be given the same support and opportunities to thrive. If you're proactive, safety-conscious, and ready to learn, we’ll give you the tools and experience to kickstart a long-term career in vehicle maintenance.

Job Overview

  • Vehicle Servicing & Repairs: Support planned maintenance activities and assist with servicing to ensure fleet vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant.
  • Diagnostic & Technical Training: Learn how to diagnose faults, replace or repair parts, and operate specialist tools under the supervision of qualified technicians.
  • Workshop Operations: Carry out tasks such as bodywork repairs, basic welding, and tail lift maintenance, maintaining a clean and organised workspace.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all site health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE and manual handling practices.
  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside VMU Technicians and the wider Transport team to support vehicle availability and operational requirements.
  • Training & Development: Attend all mandatory training, college learning sessions, and assessments to progress through your apprenticeship programme.
  • Record-Keeping & Reporting: Complete documentation, reports, and training logs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Safety Culture Contribution: Report hazards or near misses and contribute to a positive safety culture in the workshop.

Minimum Criteria To Apply

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, or a willingness to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 during the programme.
  • Full UK driving licence (held for at least 12 months).
  • Interest in vehicle maintenance—prior experience helpful but not essential.
  • Good attention to detail with a safety-first, methodical approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Physically capable of carrying out manual tasks in line with training.
  • Positive attitude toward learning, development, and teamwork.
